CAMBRIDGE® SportsTurf Drainage Systems
Principles of CAMBRIDGE® Sportsturf Drainage
WATER WILL NOT MOVE QUICKLY THROUGH MOST SOILS.
CAMBRIDGE® provides a rapid drainage route which is so intensive that surplus water bypasses the soil. This makes it possible to define and guarantee exactly what this drainage system can achieve and leaves the soil to provide the nutritious root zone which is essential for good quality turf.
The outstanding success of CAMBRIDGE® Designs is due to the calculated grid-iron pattern of CAMBRIDGE® Sports field Pipe Drains crossed by CAMBRIDGE Sand Injection/Line Soil Replacement forming a CAMBRIDGE® Matrix which is so intensive that ere are many miles of drains in just one football field.

A CAMBRIDGE® Matrix fulfills four functions:
1. Free surface water drains vertically down through the sand.
2. Water moves laterally along each slit in order to reach discharge points.
3. Moisture continuity is maintained between the sand and the CAMBRIDGE® re-structured soil of the root zone through the side walls of the slits. This two-way flow provides moisture for growth but also removes any excess water.
4. A continuous hydraulic link is maintained between the Sand Injection/Line Soil Replacement and the surface sand so that the entire surface is drained by a capillary attraction force which relates to a layer of sand as deep as the slits; surplus water does not just flow off the surface – it is pulled off.
In hot dry weather, when irrigation is required, the intensive CAMBRIDGE® Matrix ensures that water is not left lying on the surface to evaporate but goes into the slits where it is readily absorbed by the soil. This efficient usage permits water conservation whilst simultaneously providing a dry surface and a slightly moist root zone.
